Curious about what’s in store at the 2022 edition of Hostex, taking place from the 26th to 28th June at the Sandton Convention Centre? We caught up with Specialised Exhibitions Charlene Hefer, the Portfolio Director for Hostex, to find out why you should be visiting this year’s refreshed edition of the show.

“Visitors can expect a refreshed approach to networking, learning, sourcing, buying, meeting, and being entertained by all that Hostex has to offer, under one roof,” says Charlene.

“We’re extremely excited that we are able to host Hostex 2022 at all, and believe it reflects an industry that is keen to recover from the tumultuous pandemic years, and has the resilience, innovation, and passion to recognize new opportunities and make the most of them,” she says.

She highlights the SA Chefs Association, who will be returning to the Hostex Skillery again where a networking platform will be the focus of their stand with a demo counter and space for SA Chefs’ partners and sponsors to showcase their products.

“SA Chefs is aiming for an informal, homely ambience, encouraging engagement and learning for the hospitality, food and drink industry as a whole. We believe the Skillery will be one of several must-visit spots at Hostex 2022.”

SA Chefs is not the only familiar face you’ll see. “We have some big names among our exhibitors, and a good number of returning exhibitors,” says Charlene. “The sense we get is an industry ready to regain its strong position in the country’s economy and prepared to put in the hard work to achieve that. We have always been proud to represent this sector through Hostex, and we are more so now as the industry embraces opportunities for growth.”

Charlene believes that exhibitions continue to remain relevant – perhaps even more so, in this post-pandemic world. “We at Specialised have found that the pandemic highlighted the value of face-to-face interaction, and that relationship building is far more meaningful and lasting at an in-person show,” she says.

“People essentially are more comfortable with physical interaction with products and services – they generally represent a major investment by decision-makers. Information gathering about trends, innovations and developments in the markets is also a lot more accessible at expos, and importantly, networking with industry trailblazers is always rewarding.”

Charlene’s Top Three Tips for Visitors

  1. Don’t skimp on time allocated to visiting the show – there will always be more to see, more to learn, more people to engage with, more ideas to assimilate, and more time needed to make important buying decisions than you expect.
  2. Connect with exhibitors you are interested in visiting ahead of the show and make appointments to ensure you don’t end up at the end of a long queue of visitors on a specific stand.
  3. Remember this is your show – it represents your industry. Enjoy the full experience.
