To mark the occasion of World Mustard Day (must every single type of food have its own day?) on the 3rd of August, American mustard producer French’s has collaborated with a Los Angeles-based ice cream company Coolhaus to create a mustard flavoured ice cream. Opinion on the bright yellow-coloured ice cream has, naturally, been mixed although surprisingly positive. .

Comments from American-based media that had a chance to sample the product beforehand ranged from “pleasantly surprised by the sweet, creamy base flavor and aroma” and “smelled like cotton candy and bubblegum and tasted strangely French vanilla-y” to “One scoop is definitely fun and doable, but two scoops might be pushing it a bit.”

According to French’s, they decided that after 115 years of using mustard to spruce up standard fare, it was time to take it one step further by adding mustard to ice cream. The end result has been paired with a pretzel cookie, in a nod to the traditional flavour pairing. The ice cream is going to be available for a limited time in celebration of World Mustard Day.
