[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1563265773368{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]For the sixth year, Tsogo Sun provided the Sandton Convention Centre as a venue for packing an estimated 316 000 meals for Rise against Hunger, as well as the funds and volunteers to pack meals in three cities around SA.

The target for this year’s Rise against Hunger Africa Eradication programme is 3 million meals packed during Mandela Month. The programme, which initially operated as Stop Hunger Now, is celebrating its 10th year. Meals are distributed through ECD Connect, “a results-oriented nutrition programme that monitors and evaluates the progress of beneficiaries to ensure maximum impact.”

The event at Sandton Convention Centre saw 80 Tsogo Sun staff members participating in 67 minutes of meal packing during the course of the day. South African personalities also lent their packing-skills to the event, and these included soccer legend Lucas Radebe, Shashi Naidoo, Chris Japhta, Nicole da Silva and Kerishnie Naicker.

Andrew Hosking, Tsogo Sun Hotels Operations Director for the Gauteng Northern region, says the primary focus of Tsogo Sun’s CSI initiatives is education. “Hunger has a highly detrimental effect on children’s efforts to learn. The body slows down physical and mental activities to compensate for the lack of food intake. Hungry children generally lose the desire to play, to study, and to take initiative. We’re proud to rise alongside Rise Against Hunger in an effort to actively combat the scourge of poverty and improve children’s chances of a better future.”
