Executive Chef Beatrix Thornhill, who has been at the helm of the Social Kitchen & Bar restaurant since 2018, has revealed her new menu. “Our patrons like to eat what they know; the trick has been to present it to them with some flair. Simply stylish is how I would describe our new menu; simple food done stylishly,” says Beatrix.

The restaurant is housed inside Exclusive Books in Hyde Park, with stunning views over Johannesburg and a book-themed menu that divides courses into chapters.

Dishes on the menu are hearty and generous, and are all familiar to the diner, just with a little twist from the chef – think rooibos crème brûlée and fish cake tacos. The kitchen has a Josper oven, and dedicates a section of the menu to Josper-fired items, served without sides. These include Corn-fed boneless chicken, Rib eye on the bone, and Pork Rack marinated in thyme, honey, fennel seeds and olive oil. Other dishes on the new menu include Pumpkin and Josper Sweet Potato Sage Risotto and Creamy Chocolate Mole Risotto topped with Crispy Pork Belly, Blue cheese and preserved fig Josper burger and Crumbed chicken foot long sourdough, Lemon and thyme wings and Herbed tempura artichoke hearts.

“Social Kitchen & Bar is all about sharing conversations and sharing great food in a beautiful space. We have created a series of familiar favourites but injected them with our own unique flair which will leave you feeling as if you are dining from your very own home away from home,” says Beatrix.
