The Saxon Spa was honoured with two awards by the World Spa Awards at a star-studded gala ceremony held in Dubai on 21 October 2019, being named Africa’s Best Hotel Spa 2019 as well as South Africa’s Best Hotel Spa 2019. This is the third year running that the Saxon Spa has received these awards, having also been honoured in this way in 2017.
The Saxon Spa re-opened in November 2016 after a major refurb by internationally-acclaimed interior designer, Stephen Falcke incorporating the healing properties of Himalayan salt, into the design as well as therapies. Each treatment room is ionised by a locally handcrafted Himalayan salt and recycled glass chandelier created by a local conservation project based in a local South African township. As well as making a striking centrepiece, the chandeliers actively purify the air, stimulate circulation and increase energy levels.
Tanya Lopes, Spa Manager, said: ‘It is always an honour to be honored on an international level for the work that we are doing as well as being recognised as global competitors in the company of such amazing spas.’
New treatments recently launched at the Saxon Spa includes the Molton Brown Signature Journey as well adding the Kevin.Murphy Treat.Me range to the offering in the Hair Spa. This adds to the existing Signature Journeys and luxurious experience that the Saxon Spa is known for.
World Spa Awards was developed in reaction to overwhelming demand from the spa industry for a programme that was fair and transparent; a programme with a mission to serve as the definitive benchmark of excellence, and to help to foster a new era of growth in spa tourism.
Votes are cast by professionals working within the spa industry – senior executives, travel buyers, tour operators, agents and media – and by the public.
