Situated just 30km from East London is the Mpongo Private Game Reserve, which sprawls over 3500 hectares of conservation land and is home to a number of animals, including elephants, lions and over 200 bird species. There’s been a large increase in visitors to the malaria-free reserve, and Premier Hotels & Resorts has invested over R18 million to accommodate the business and leisure travellers that visit.
Two new lodges have been added to the accommodation mix – Indlovu Lodge and Umthombe Bush Villa. They join Huberta Lodge (6-roomed lodge property close to the waterhole) and River Lodge (10 rooms, 1 suite and 3 chalets, with views of the Umpongo River). Indlovu Lodge is located on a hilltop, offering great views and accommodation spread over 19 rooms and two dormitories. There’s also a swimming pool, lounge and dining room. The Umthombe Bush Villa is a little more secluded and aimed at large groups, with five bedrooms, a games room, braai area, swimming pool and lounge/dining area.
Further renovations have been made to the Game Reserve restaurant and edu-centre, and new administration offices have been built. For more information on Mpongo Private Game Reserve, click here.
