Peter van Rensburg

Peter van Rensburg

WINK Aparthotels is proud to announce the appointment of Peter van Rensburg as the General Manager of the hospitality group. WINK Aparthotels manages a collection of trendy aparthotel properties throughout the Western Cape and is a subsidiary of the local and 100% Female Black Owned hospitality group, Indalo Hotels and Leisure. Its current portfolio includes WINK Foreshore in Cape Town, WINK Eaton Square in the Southern Suburbs and WINK Quivertree in Stellenbosch.

WINK Aparthotels offers well-designed and spacious self-catering apartments together with the amenities of a hotel, offering the best of both worlds – a prime location and staff on hand to field questions and bookings, as well as the flexibility to either prepare meals in the room or eat down at the stylish WINK Café.

With far-reaching and diverse experience in hospitality, Peter is the perfect addition to the WINK Aparthotels team. “My career in hotels has been a vast journey of new challenges and learning experiences,” says Peter. “Each company, property and appointment has brought with it new opportunities to deliver my best and be the most inspirational leader to my team – and I am thrilled to be joining the WINK team on this exciting new adventure.”

The Joburg-born hotelier credits his stints at City Lodge Hotels, Arabella Sheraton Hotel and the Simola and Pinnacle Point Golf Estates for moulding him into the leader he is today. “City Lodge Hotels founder Hans Enderle was a real mentor who inspired me to maintain the core fundamentals of hospitality,” says Peter. “The Arabella was a true 5-star experience that put my abilities in managing projects to the utmost test, while the Golf Estates were my introduction to sectional title and hospitality rental pools.”

WINK deviates from the traditional hotel model in that private real estate investors have invested into the properties – and this is part of the reason that the job appealed to Peter. “The WINK team has expertise in both hospitality and property investment, which is the perfect recipe for an Aparthotel group,” he says. “It gives individuals, investors and real estate owners the opportunity to share in the success of the tourism industry in one of the top destinations of the world – Cape Town.”

It’s not just WINK’s model that appeals to Peter, but also the hospitality heart of the brand. “Our team is friendly, welcoming and accommodating – and able to package accommodation solutions to meet both domestic and international travellers, whether it is overnight, short-term or long-term,” says Peter. “Our apartments and properties are safe and secure, neat and clean, comfortable and stylish, and everything works – an ideal spot to call home when you’re travelling!”

Going forward, Peter will be applying his talents to getting the fundamentals right within the WINK team, focusing on operational procedures and training. As WINK is a relatively new brand, positioning WINK securely in the marketplace will be a priority for the new GM. “Each Cape Town event should be an opportunity to showcase WINK, and I’ll also be encouraging influencers to become brand ambassadors to bring greater social awareness to the brand.”

But he’s not just about work – he spends his spare time with his partner, either sharing a meal with her at one of Cape Town’s excellent restaurants or watching an action-packed series together on Netflix. He believes in a daily exercise and stretching regime to keep him at the top of his game.
