Chef Freddie Dias, previously head chef of The Pot Luck Club in Cape Town, will be heading up Peech Boutique Hotel’s new dining space – Basalt Restaurant. Peech is a Fair Trade-certified boutique property in Johannesburg’s suburb of Melrose that’s recently expanded its offering from 16 to 32 rooms.

Chef Freddie will be at the helm of two dining spots on the property – the first the Basalt restaurant, a completely new offering a refined dining experience to visitors and in-house guests, and the second the hotel’s original guest-only bistro, which will be undergoing a renovation.

The Basalt Restaurant menu is still being fine-tuned, but Chef Freddie says that guests can expect carefully selected seasonal produce and ‘contemporary global cuisine’ influenced by his Portuguese roots and love for Asian and Mexican flavours.
