Take a look at some of the new appointments that have been made in the hospitality industry recently.

Deborah Pillay | General Manager – Holiday Inn Sandton

The newly appointed General Manager for the Holiday Inn Sandton, Deborah (pictured above) has held various roles in the industry, including Front Office Manager and Revenue Manager, and most recently was General Manager for Revenue and General Manager Corporate Sales. Her new position sees her moving away from Head Office, back into Operations.

Clifford von Richter | General Manager – Road Lodge Kimberley

Clifford has been appointed the general manager of Road Lodge Kimberley. He was previously assistant general manager at City Lodge Hotel Sandton, Katherine Street in Johannesburg. He first joined the City Lodge Hotel Group in 2009 as assistant general manager at Road Lodge Cape Town International Airport in 2009. He was later promoted to assistant general manager at Town Lodge Midrand and has just recently completed a stint assisting with the pre-opening processes in the City Lodge Hotel Maputo.

Etienne Grobler | General Manager – City Lodge Hotel Pinelands

With over 20 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, Etienne Grobler joined the City Lodge Hotel Group in 1998 as a receptionist and night auditor. He started out at Town Lodge Bellville, before moving on to City Lodge Hotel GrandWest and City Lodge Hotel VA Waterfront. He was then promoted to the position of General Manager at both Road Lodge Cape Town International Airport and Town Lodge Bellville, before taking on his current role.

Wentzel von Wielligh | General Manager – City Lodge Hotel V&A Waterfront

The newly appointed general manager of City Lodge Hotel V&A Waterfront most recently spent just under a year at City Lodge Hotel Pinelands. Past experience includes completing a cultural representative programme at Walt Disney World Resort in the United States, as well as various positions within the City Lodge Hotel Group. He furthered his studies while working within the group, obtaining a City & Guilds Diploma in Accommodation Services in 2015 and a qualification as a Certified Hotel Administrator through the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute in 2017.

Kaylin Shabalala | Executive Chef – The Plettenberg Hotel

The newest addition to the Collection’s culinary team, Kaylinn Tshabalala, joins The Plettenberg as the Executive chef of the hotel, from Grande Provence in Franschhoek; other career highlights include working at Waterkloof in Somserset West, The River Club in Zambia and Denis Island in the Seychelles. Kaylinn will be working closely with local suppliers to offer guests innovative, sustainably sourced seafood dishes.
