After spending months hunkering down during lockdown, JoziGin eatery is back with a new menu. They’re focusing on street food classics, from the Kota to the Bunny Chow, Amagwinya to boerewors roll, they’re going back to basics.

True comfort food dishes, the new menu’s bunny chow will be filled with either butter chicken or lamb knuckle and potato curry. The ‘Boujie Boeries’ will come with a selection of toppings – the foot long boerewors roll comes with fresh chillies, chakalaka and sweet fried onions, while another option is topped with jalapeno chillies, bacon bits and a jalapeno drizzle. Amagwinya, or vetkoek, are stuffed with chicken mayo, pickles and cheddar, or spicy mince, cheddar and atchar. The kota is served in half-loaf with red and green chillies, herb-rubbed sirloin steak, twice-fried chips and herb cream.

JoziGin eatery is owned by restaurateur Theo Mocke, first opened in April 2019 is based in The Wedge shopping centre in Rivonia, with a big, breezy terrace overlooking the Johannesburg Country Club. Inside, you’ll find a 10m-long retro brass-clad bar and from here they serve an extensive selection of local and international craft gins, which are served in large goblets with a variety of tonics and garnishes.
