First Group Hotels & Resorts are redefining their response to COVID-19 in an effort to transform every resort and hotel into a COVID-safe zone so that guests can enjoy an even cleaner, safer, germ-free holiday.

“In the midst of a global pandemic, we can no longer take comfort in the way things have been done. Whilst First Group has always prioritised the health of its guests and employees, we have completely relooked at all our health and safety measures and have revolutionised new industry standards of cleanliness,” says Shaun Lamont, Managing Director of First Group.

He adds that cleanliness practices and protocols have been rewritten to ensure only the highest standards at the Group’s 25 properties. “This new ground-breaking protocol, called PristinePurposeCleaned (PPC), is designed to optimise guest safety from check-in to check-out.”

Building on the Group’s already high standards of housekeeping and hygiene, PPC is a rigorous system that incorporates ground-breaking cleanliness routines and procedures designed to mimimise risk. Focused on more than just disinfection, it provides a holistic approach designed to take care of guests and First Group employees.

Lamont adds that key to the PristinePurposeCleaned programme, is the rolling out of enhanced technologies, including electrostatic sprayers with hospital-grade disinfectant to sanitise surfaces throughout the resort, as recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to treat known pathogens.

Access to their properties will be strictly controlled with the use of various measures including no-contact thermometers, disinfection spray tunnels and hand sanitation stations.

In addition, the company will also use ultraviolet light technology for the further sanitisation of all rooms and public areas. When these new technologies are used to sterilise rooms, they will be secured with a seal which may only be broken by the guest upon entry.

“The ground-breaking technology and protocols that we are introducing at all our hotels and resorts are internationally tried and tested. Sure, some of this comes at a hefty cost but for us, this is a non-negotiable investment into the continued health and safety of our guests and our employees,” says Lamont.

The implementation of the PristinePurposeCleaned initiative is synchronised to commence with the reopening of their high-demand resorts around SA and as determined by the proposed level the government.

“COVID-19 has changed the way people will live and travel forever. Perfectly fluffed pillows and access to WI-FI will no longer top the charts on a travelers list of hotel requirements. These are now a given. Pristine Purposed Cleaned accommodation is critical as South African holiday makers navigate the new travel and holiday norms… and I stand shoulder to shoulder with my passionate team ready to welcome regular and new guests to First Group resorts around South Africa,” Lamont concludes.
