While The Table Bay’s usually buzzing lounge, bars and passageways are silent, there is a small team quietly holding the fort until the time comes for The Table Bay to welcome guests once again. Like most hotels in South Africa, The Table Bay is closed to guests, and six months since joining The Table Bay family, Security Manager Deonatius Abrahams is playing a leading role in keeping the hotel safe during the nationwide lockdown. His favourite task is walking the hotel with his security team every day.

“I love that I am playing a role in ensuring that ‘Cape Town’s Best Address’ is safe and secure. Everything is as it was left at the start of the lockdown. We can’t wait for the return of our colleagues and guests to our beautiful hotel,” he says.

Whilst security work is usually just a means to an end for some, it is something Deonatius is serious and passionate about. “The passion I have for security was and always will be my motivational engine which keeps me moving forward,” he says. “I also thoroughly enjoy working with high profile guests. It will be wonderful to interact with guests again.”

Of his team, he says: “Our team spirit is amazing. I’m proud of the way in which everyone continues to embrace their work.”
