Westin Cape Town has appointed Chef Stephen Mandes to head up its flagship restaurant, ON19. Prior to joining the ON19 team, Chef Mandes worked in the kitchens of the Mount Nelson Hotel, the Cape Grace, Mondiall kitchen & Bar, Restaurant Jardine and de Grendel Wines.
The 30-year old culinary arts graduate and 2014 winner of the Ultimate Braai Master confesses he is driven by new challenges and constant change. “For me, cooking has always come naturally. I am fortunate, I get to cook amazing dishes and perfect my craft every day, no two days are the same, he says.
In his new role Mandes has been tasked with curating innovative menu design and restaurant strategy, and guests will have a chance to try out his style this month as he launches a Winter menu.
