Chef Peter Tempelhoff will be bringing his over 20 years of experience to Ellerman House, where he has been appointed Culinary Director. The chef is well known for his time at the Liz McGrath portfolio of properties, most notably for heading up the Greenhouse restaurant, and is the owner of FYN Restaurant in the Cape Town CBD. The chef is a member of the Relais & Châteaux’s World Culinary Council, and Ellerman House is also part of the Relais & Châteaux family.

The property places an emphasis on promoting all things local, and Paul Harris, Ellerman House owner, says that Chef Peter will continue this journey. “Peter’s food philosophy treasures, preserves and continually revives South Africa’s rich food heritage with contemporary flair. We know his influence is going to enhance our guests’ culinary experience beyond measure and allow us to express the individuality of Ellerman House.”

“South Africa’s food culture inspires me daily and guests can expect to be taken on a delicious journey through our country’s landscape,” says Chef Peter, who has already crafted a new menu at the property and is busy working on an exclusive dining experience that is soon to be launched in the Wine Gallery. One of the new dishes on the menu is Karoo lamb with sweetbreads, Parmesan pap, spekboom and pickled honey, gremolata and jus gras.

Ellerman House is a luxury boutique hotel in Bantry Bay with exceptional views over the Atlantic Ocean and has 11 rooms, 2 suites, and two 3-bedroom villas, as well as a spa. The property also boasts the Ellerman House Wine Gallery, a cellar for the hotel’s 7500-bottle collection of South African vintage wines.
