Well-known in the public eye for his stint as MasterChef South Africa Judge, and in the cheffing fraternity for heading up the kitchens at Michelangelo Hotel and Hyatt Rosebank, Chef Andrew Atkinson has been appointed as Executive Chef of the Hilton Sandton.
In fact, Chef Andrew was the senior Sous Chef at the Hilton Sandton at the time of the hotel’s opening in 1997, so this appointment sees his return to a kitchen that he’s very familiar with. “Hotel kitchens are about team work and bringing out the best in people. Making people believe in their abilities and that they add value to the team. I aim to create an ethos within a team where all team members constantly know how their position fits into the bigger picture. For me there is nothing more rewarding in seeing people realising and then working on reaching their potential, within a team,” explains the newly appointed Executive Chef.
As well as his time spent in top hotels, Chef Andrew’s notable achievements from his 28 years in industry include captaining the SA National Culinary Team and holding the position of Director of Competitions for SA Chefs.
