With just a few days to go before Hostex 2022 takes place at the Sandton Convention Centre, we look at some of the not-to-be-missed opportunities within the show. Show specials, live demonstrations, competitions, tastings, and other attractions will all be a part of the overall excellent Hostex 2022 REFRESHED experience.

Of special note are a few key stands (you can find out some of the latest products being launched here, as well as what to expect at the show overall here). These hubs will be great places to network with your industry colleagues, discover rising stars and find out more about an organisation that’s doing the most to alleviate food waste in SA, so make sure you make a turn or two!

Barista Champs

Head to the Coffee Market – not only to improve your caffeine game with insights from leading coffee personalities, and equipment and products from local and international companies, but also for the Barista Championships.

The Speciality Coffee Association of SA (SCASA) will once again be hosting the annual National Semi-final Competition, incorporating all five regions – Gauteng, Western Cape, Eastern Cape, KZN, and Central – in Barista, Latte Art, and Cup Taster divisions. This is the first time that SCASA has been able to hold the competition since Hostex 2020, so expect an action-packed showdown as the best coffee professionals in each region go head to head for the title in each category before the finals later this year.

Tourism Fighting Hunger

SA Harvest, a national food rescue and hunger relief organisation, will be exhibiting at Hostex this year and aims to engage with industry about food waste, sustainability, and redirecting food waste to alleviate hunger. They’ll be launching a tourism campaign that helps accommodation providers share information about SA Harvest’s unique and sustainable model of rescuing food that would have gone to waste throughout the food chain.

Visit the stand to stand a chance to win one of the prizes up for grabs, as well as to find out more about SA Harvest’s #UnionAgainstHunger, a petition that calls on government to address the systemic issues that lie at the root of hunger.
