Twist Restaurant at the African Pride Mount Grace Country House & Spa has a new look and a new chef!  “The recent refurbishment of the hotel’s popular Twist Restaurant came at the same time as the appointment of our new Executive Chef, Genghis San, so we have both a new look and a new taste,” enthuses the hotel’s General Manager, Anton Meiring. “Although relatively young – he is still in his 20s – Genghis has a wealth of experience in the food industry, having worked in various top kitchens. His experience in Protea Hotels by Marriott®, which owns the African Pride Hotels brand, includes his first appointment as an Executive Chef – at the Protea Hotel by Marriott OR Tambo.  Genghis subsequently served as the Executive Chef of the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! by Marriott Pretoria Menlyn.”

The new Executive Chef has introduced different items to the food offering at the hotel, including a Sunday carvery lunch on the first Sunday of every month.  “While the idea of a carvery lunch is nothing unique,” Executive Chef San explains, “we have some great recipes offering very special flavours. Set against the backdrop of the beautiful Magaliesburg Mountains with the fragrance of our rose garden near the entrance to the restaurant, the location means that guests can savour quality taste sensations in a setting of tranquillity and beauty.”

Twist Restaurant focuses on fresh country-style food which fits in with the Magaliesberg countryside surrounds, and the hotel grounds are also home to bee hives which produce Blue Gum honey for the restaurant and diners.

“The new look for the Twist Restaurant comes six years since our last refurbishment,” says Meiring.  “We have opened the area up so that the kitchen is now integrated into the dining area.  Furnished in warm colours and with copper finishes and rustic chandeliers, there is a homely atmosphere geared to make the environment warm and inviting.”
