Alchemy of Gold has devised a novel and compelling way of introducing trendy South Africans to the pleasures of connoisseur brandies paired with gourmet sweet treats.
The concept involves luxury tasting kits that come complete with two full-size award-winning brandies, ten sumptuous brandy balloons, a lacquered box filled with information on brandy and everything you need to arrange your own brandy tasting and a selection of hand-made confection to match.
Two variations of the limited edition epicurean kits have been designed for personal delivery to carefully hand-picked, influential South Africans. Recipients will not only have to have a taste for the good life but be willing to host small-scale at-home parties where those in their inner circle can experience fine brandy in a stylish but relaxing new context.
One kit, featuring a 750ml bottle each of Klipdrift Gold and Van Ryn’s 10 Year Old Vintage Brandy, comes with two versions of biscotti and deluxe chocolates. The Klipdrift Gold is meant to be paired with walnut and date biscotti and dark chocolate-coated espresso beans, and the Van Ryn’s brandy with apricot and white chocolate biscotti and white chocolate medallions.
The other kit is presented with Nederburg Solera Brandy Potstilled and Oude Meester Demant for which two special flavours of fudge and Turkish delight have been produced.
Kits are being taken to the homes of earmarked recipients who have given their consent, by specially trained representatives who explain the contents, how to use them and provide tips for an exciting journey into the mystique of luxury brandy pairing with sweet foodie indulgences.
Says Lee-Anne Lotz, Alchemy of Gold brand manager: “We make our selection of recipients after very careful profiling but once you have been identified and have given your consent, we literally equip you with everything you need for an innovative, sophisticated tasting of some of South Africa’s foremost brandies in the comfort of your own home. We provide the brandy, the glasses, the confection, easy-to-follow information in written and visual form, including cards, brochures, tasting mats, a DVD and someone who explains how to put it all together. The rest is up to you. The pace and the style of delivery are where you impart your personal stamp.
“Word-of-mouth recommendations definitely carry the most weight. In our experience, once people taste our select brandies, they want to know more. The kits are an interactive, edutaining way of inviting those in their networks to enter a whole new world of taste.
“We are not necessarily zooming in on high-profile people but those eligible for the kits have to be charismatic and looked-up-to by the people in their personal and professional orbit. These tasting kits are extremely costly and are being produced in very limited quantities, given the exclusive nature of the brandies.”
