South Africa; Cape Town; July 2010: With 22 years cooking experience under his belt Brit Peter Anderson’s larger than life love of food is evident not only in his creations and passionate explanations but the extent of experience gained from his travels around the globe.
Believing that a restaurant should be able to provide something for everyone Peter has made Lagoon Beach Hotel’s restaurants, The Brasserie and La Mizu Beach Bar, a welcoming home away from home experience for business and leisure travellers.
Using fresh ingredients and local flavours his food style has been described as Traditionally South African with a Modern Contemporary twist and with enough choice and individual flair his dishes are sumptuously perfect for any dining occasion.
Buffet spreads offer an abundance of aromatic tastes and flavours and are equally colourful and visually enticing sparing no corners when it comes to seasonally fresh ingredients.
Peter’s natural affinity for food had him working in his parent’s pub at the age of 15 and upon completion of his studies Peter came to South Africa where he was involved with the opening of The Bay Hotel, Camps Bay.
Peter returned to the United Kingdom and then worked in Dubai before traveling back to South Africa in the early nineties to fill a Junior Sous Chef position at Sandton Sun & Towers.
Thereafter Peter worked between New Zealand and Australia for three years as an independent member of Chefs On The Run and emphasizes his employ at various travel destinations such as Park Royal Plaza, Sydney and Auckland Travel Lodge, Auckland.
Upon his third return to South Africa in October 1996, and perhaps one of the highlights of his career, Peter was offered a position at the prestigious 5-Star The Mount Nelson Hotel, which saw his three year career here climb through the ranks to Executive Sous Chef. A much needed change of environment led to his move to the Ambassador Hotel, Bantry Bay where he worked alongside long time friend Alex Docherty.
Peter also worked at the Marine Hotel, Hermanus before moving into his first Executive Chef position at Alphen Hotel, Constantia in September 2002, where he boasts within his first year the hotel was selected as having one of the top one hundred restaurants in South Africa.
Peter joined the Three Cities Hotel group in 2004, originally working between the Peninsula and Cape Milner Hotel’s and was involved with an additional two new hotel openings during this time. The start of Peter’s employ at the helm of the kitchen at Lagoon Beach Hotel began in 2007.
