NEDERBURG AGAIN ON TOP TEN LIST OF FRENCH-BASED COMPETITION
Nederburg was the only South African winery and also the only New World contestant to achieve a place amongst the top ten wines in the 2009 Muscats du Monde. The 2007 Private Bin Eminence, which won gold, was featured along with wines from Spain, France and Portugal.
Made for sale exclusively on the Nederburg Auction, the same vintage has been rated four stars in the current edition of the Platter’s South African Wine Guide, praised for its “fragrant freshness redolent of jasmine tea, apricot, tangerine”, for being “softly firm” and having a “lovely fresh balance.”
The French-based competition was held for the ninth time this year and attracted over 200 still and sparkling wine entries from 24 countries, evaluated by 45 judges. In 2005, Nederburg’s 2002 vintage Eminence also won gold.
Earlier this year, the 2008 Private Bin Eminence took the trophy for the best natural sweet wine on the 2009 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show, when Nederburg also was rated the competition’s most successful producer.
Nederburg emerged the winner on another French competition recently, the 2009 Syrah du Monde, with the 2006 Private Bin R121 Shiraz earning the highest score. The wine is also made for sale on the Nederburg Auction.
