Outsourcing within the Hospitality arena has its own set of challenges and the decision to outsource is often taken without proper consideration of what the effect might be on your service levels. Unlike other industries, outsourcing your staff within the hospitality arena often means the outsourcing of your reputation, as it is often the employees themselves who construct or shatter exactly that.
It is with these sensitive issues in mind that we set out to form a company that can deliver a much-needed differentiated service. The Hospitality Solutions Company (HSC) was formed in 2004 to address the growing need for skilled contract labour within the hospitality industry. HSC is an association of industry professionals from both the hospitality as well as the labour outsourcing arena. At HSC we believe in a concrete value offering based on flexibility, customisation and a strong emphasis on training and up-skilling.
HSC is a wholly owned subsidiary to 'Labour Supply Chain (Pty) Ltd' (LSC). LSC currently employs some 2,000 staff operating on an outsourced basis throughout South Africa in the Transport and Logistics industry. Thus HSC has the backing of a large organisation with all of the supporting services and systems already established. LSC is 26% owned by an empowered entity 'Capital Growth Solutions (Pty) Ltd' thereby making HSC a truly empowered entity.
HSC principally deals in long term outsourcing contracts within the hospitality industry. We offer a flexible and trained workforce relieving the client of all staff related issues and allowing you to maximize profits by focusing on core competencies.
The Hospitality Solutions Company is headed up by Phillip Meyer, Phillip has a long history in the hospitality arena as well as extensive experience in the supply and management of outsourced staff. He is assisted by Stephen Hickmore, both of which have extensive experience within the hospitality industry.
Phillip Meyer, Managing Director-HSC
Following the completion of his Diploma in Hotel & Catering Management, Phillip joined the Cullinan Group of Hotels within the Food & Beverage Division. Phillip was then recruited into the Premiere Classe Group of Boutique Hotels and took up position as Duty Manager in Front Office.
From there on he entered the Conferring & Banqueting arena after taking up employment with Mick McCormick Conference Centre. After a brief period he moved to Glenburn Lodge to further his career as Banqueting Manager. Continuing with Glenburn for a few years, the opportunity presented itself to join INNSTAFF to head up the then new division of staff outsourcing as Operations Manager. At INNSTAFF Phillip was responsible for all operations within the Gauteng region as well as the management of approx 1200 temporary staff.
This experience opened up a prospect to join Labour Supply Chain (Pty) Ltd and within a year joined forces with Stephen Hickmore to start the new hospitality division, HSC – The Hospitality Solutions Company. Phillip has successfully headed up HSC over the past three years as Managing Director.
Stephen Hickmore
Stephen studied hotel management in the UK, graduating from Clarendon College in Nottingham with the National Diploma in Hospitality Management. Stephen was recruited as a graduate management trainee by Trust House Forte hotels and went on to complete a further years training in several of their three and four star full service hotels.
Stephen obtained his first management position as Banqueting Manager at the Dukes in Kings Lynn at 20 years old. By a twist of fate, a year later, he was transferred to set up the personnel and training department at THF’s only hotel in South Africa, the Parkview in Durban. After three years Stephen returned to the UK with THF, but after a year returned to South Africa to join Southern Sun Hotels. Stephen held positions in Human Resources Management with the group until joining the world of Hospitality recruitment and HR consultancy 16 years ago.
During the past 8 years Stephen has established a well renowned recruitment consultancy and search firm “Hickmore Recruitment”. In the last year Stephen has branched out into two other new ventures “The Opening Team” and “The Hospitality Solutions Company, H.S.C”. The Opening Team specialises in interim management placements and HSC outsourced staffing solutions for the hospitality industry.

Capital Growth Solutions (Pty) Ltd was formed in 2003 primarily to provide emerging South African entrepreneurs with professional solutions in small, medium and micro enterprise development through entrepreneurial skills training, sales and marketing linkages, mentorship and after care services as well as venture capital investment.
With effect 1 March 2004, the company was restructured with the addition of an investment holding company with the aim of buying into existing companies and being both operationally involved in the running of such companies as well as in creating opportunities for further employment in the communities in which we operate. It was incorporated as a wholly black owned company with the sole aim of investing in strategically targeted areas such as mining, IT, industrial services, financial services, logistics, property and human capital expertise. In addition, Capital Growth Solution is a ‘youth company’ affiliated with the Free State Youth Chamber of Commerce.
Emphasis on Training & Up-Skilling
HSC has a strategically outsourced all training to our accredited training partners, Q-Competence. Headed up by Brenda Davidson, Q-Competence are without a doubt the industry leaders in accredited hospitality training.
HSC is of the belief that training is an ongoing process rather than a single event and therefore constantly strive to improve the skills of staff allowing them upward mobility.
