Listed hotels group City Lodge, currently engaged in its biggest ever expansion drive, has opened its 49th and 50th hotels in Pretoria and Bloemfontein respectively. It has also extended one of its existing Johannesburg hotels.
City Lodge Lynnwood, a R124 million development, has opened 123 of its 205 rooms, with the remainder coming on stream during the 2010 Fifa World Cup.
Road Lodge Bloemfontein Airport, a R28 million development, has opened the first phase of its 66 rooms and will be fully operational for the World Cup.
Town Lodge Sandton has added 70 rooms to its capacity at a cost of around R41 million.
The opening of these two new hotels follows hard on the heels of the opening last month of the 118-room Road Lodge Southgate - a R49 million development in southern Johannesburg.
Earlier in May, the group opened the 90-room Road Lodge Port Elizabeth Airport and in March it opened the 303-room City Lodge at OR Tambo Airport.
"This is an exciting year for us from an expansion point of view and we are still on the lookout for further suitable sites for our four brands - Courtyard, City Lodge, Town Lodge and Road Lodge," said Clifford Ross, City Lodge's CEO.
By the end of this year, the group will have 52 hotels offering 6 443 rooms. Hotels number 51 and 52 are currently under construction and will open in the third and fourth quarters of the year.
These are the 187-room City Lodge Hatfield in Pretoria, being developed at a cost of around R121 million, and the 203-room Town Lodge Port Elizabeth, being developed at a cost of around R133 million.
