About Bravo Group
We trace our roots back to 1895 when the Transvaal Mattress Company was formed. This company was the first Sealy manufacturer in South Africa. So, that was our first name - back in 1895!
In 1964, AFCOL was listed on the JSE. It brought together a whole array of furniture and bedding manufacturers including Grafton Art, Everest Upholstery, Transvaal Mattress, Edblo, and many others. Pat Cornick was formed as a separate company in 1972 and Victoria Lewis in 1973.
In 1988, Gommagomma was formed as a separate company by Markus Jooste when he bought the brand, and a while after that it incorporated Bakker & Steyger. In the mid nineties Victoria Lewis became part of Gommagomma and in 1997 Roadway became part of the Group. In 1998, AFCOL was taken over by the Cornick Group and in that same year Steinhoff International took over Gommagomma and listed on the stock exchange.
The following year, in 1999, Steinhoff took over the Cornick Group and the Steinhoff Africa Furniture Division was born.
In 2008 Steinhoff sold the Furniture Division to ABSA Private Equity as the biggest shareholder - we had to change our name. We wanted a name that reflects our purpose: that only meeting targets is not good enough - that we have to exceed expectations and deliver products and service worthy of a standing applause. We have a rich and proud history, with great businesses in our Group.
We have strong foundations to build on, going forward as the Bravo Group.
Bravo Group's goal is to manufacture furniture brands that are superior in both quality and value, providing significant satisfaction to all our customers and enabling our shareholders and the communities in which we live and work to prosper.
By continuing to grow the number of satisfied customers, so too can we grow.
