Caring For Our Planet

Alpro N.V. strives to put a healthy lifestyle within everyone’s reach. Day in day out, we work to achieve this, with the greatest respect for people and our planet’s natural resource.

Soy Bean Sourcing

Alpro® soya products are made with non-genetically modified beans. Any traces of GM could only be the result of an accidental contamination. We do our utmost to avoid this thanks to a full rigorous segregation, traceability and control system from the farmer to the shop.

Instead of buying on the commodity market, Alpro N.V. concentrates on close relationships with farmers to ensure we receive soya beans of the highest quality. We source our soya beans directly from farms where they have been grown for many years, subject to the usual crop rotations.

None of these farms are on land that has been reclaimed or deforested. Our beans are mainly sourced in Canada, China and Brazil but outside the Amazon rainforest.

Environment Friendly

Did you know that we’ll need an extra planet to feed everyone if the world population continues to grow and consume at this alarming rate?

The good news is: we can do something about it! Just by including vegetable soya protein as an alternative for dairy or meat products into your daily diet, this has a major, positive impact on our environment:

  • Optimum land use - requires 10 times less land
  • More efficient use of water - requires 100L less water
  • Healthier diet fatty acid composition; naturally no cholesterol
  • Helps the fight against global warming - 1kg of animal protein is responsible for CO2 emission equivalent to driving 100 km.

Most of our Alpro® soya products are packed in Tetra Pak®, which are not only hygienic and keep the contents safe, but are also better for our environment. When finishing your Alpro® soya, the Tetra Pak® can be entirely recycled.

Planet Friendly Products

Alpro N.V. is very aware of its social responsibility for the planet and its inhabitants. This genuine concern is strongly installed within our company policy. We do all we can to actively support projects for the good of people and nature. Here are some examples:

  • Belgium. Support for the United Fund for Belgium (UFB):

Alpro N.V. is one of the most important donors to the United Fund for Belgium - an organisation that lends its support to about a hundred carefully selected humanitarian, social or medical projects throughout the country.

  • Brazil. Education brings new hope:

Alpro N.V. supports the EDHUCCA project in Parana state in Brazil, a centre where young people and adults can benefit from education and take part in after-school activities. This gives them the opportunity to develop themselves and to increase their chances in the employment market.

  • Africa. “Vitagoat”:

In Africa, Alpro N.V. supports “Vitagoat” - a modest soya production facility powered by bicycle pedals. This system is not dependent on electricity, generators or the power of running water, which is a tremendous advantage as electricity is very expensive in these countries and very often not even available. Thanks to Vitagoat, villagers can process soya into soya milk and soya products, breaking the cycle of malnutrition and poverty by their own endeavours.

  • Antarctica. Research into the future of our planet:

Alpro N.V. has helped finance the Belgian ‘zero emission’ research station Princess Elisabeth in Antarctica. Research is extremely important in the quest for answers to questions about the future of our planet.

We also do everything we can to make sure our other forms of packaging respect the environment.
